Ascension Dance

2026–27 Recreational Dance Classes

Recreational dance is the heart of Ascension.

Our recreational dancers receive thoughtful instruction, develop technique, learn challenging choreography, perform, make friends and become an important part of the studio community.

For most people, dance is one meaningful part of a full life. We think that is worth celebrating.

Ascension’s recreational program gives children, teens and adults opportunities to learn different dance styles, build skills over time and participate in memorable performances while remaining part of a welcoming creative community with natural connections to theatre, film and the performing arts.

OUR TWO MAIN SEMESTERS

September–December: Holiday Film

Fall dancers spend the semester learning skills and choreography, then participate in filming for Ascension’s annual Holiday Film. The finished feature-length movie is shared as a special December experience for dancers, family and friends.

January–May: Spring Recital

Our second semester continues skill development while dancers prepare for a live stage performance in May.

Each semester is a separate commitment.

Registration remains open while space is available, and dancers can often join after a semester has begun.

WHAT RECREATIONAL MEANS AT ASCENSION

Recreational does not describe how much a dancer matters.

At Ascension, it describes a program built around weekly classes, skill development, creativity, performance and community.

Ascension recreational dancers:

  • learn real dance vocabulary and technique
  • work on strength, coordination, musicality and movement quality
  • learn choreography
  • receive feedback from their teachers
  • have opportunities to perform
  • develop at an appropriate pace, with room to discuss supports or accommodations that may help them participate safely and confidently
  • build friendships and connections within the studio
  • can take private lessons or additional classes when they want more.

Some dancers come once a week. Others take several classes. Both belong here.
